I am Carolyn Bánfalvi, a freelance journalist and author living in Budapest. Originally from Washington DC, I first moved to Budapest in 1999 and immediately fell in love with the city, as well as Hungarian food and wine. My obsession with food eventually took me on a brief hiatus from Budapest and led me back to America to attend culinary school. I returned two years later and these days I live in Buda and I write mostly about food and travel.
I have contributed to several travel guides and my articles have appeared in numerous international magazines and newspapers. I am the author of Food Wine Budapest (Little Bookroom, New York) and The Food and Wine Lover’s Guide to Hungary: with Budapest Restaurants and Trips to the Wine Country (Park Kiadó, Budapest), the first culinary guidebooks to Hungarian cuisine and Budapest restaurants. My boutique culinary tourism company, Taste Hungary, offers food, wine, and market tours in Hungary as well as travel consulting services. I am currently at work on my next book (which does not involve food).
Buda Bites will be a place for me to share my food and wine discoveries, recipes, and cooking adventures in Budapest and on my travels beyond Budapest. As things often change quickly in Budapest, I will also use this space to post updates and changes to my book, as well as reviews of new restaurants and cafés that can’t wait for the next edition.
