Welcome to Buda Bites! I am an American writer living in Budapest, writing mostly about food and travel. This blog will be a place for me to share all of the wonderful things that I discover at Budapest’s markets, restaurants, and cafés. I’ll write about life in Hungary, and about my eating, drinking, and traveling adventures here. I’ll also be writing about my travels elsewhere in Europe, as well as my experiments and successes in the kitchen. I’m sure I’ll also be writing occasionally about another big adventure in my life—eating with children.
On a recent trip back to the US, I was convinced by a group of other food writers and editors that blogging really is the best way to get my writing out there, to develop my ideas, and to get some conversations started with others with similar interests. Until now I’ve been reluctant to start a blog, but it seems as if I can’t put it off any longer! I’m accustomed to the traditional publishing world—writing for newspapers, magazines, travel guidebooks, and now, my own book (my culinary guide to Budapest will be published in early 2008). In this world researching and writing takes time, the editing and design processes take even more time, and the printing takes even longer. Here, I’ll be doing without all of that lead time, and instant publishing will be a welcome change.
Print publishing also doesn’t always have a place for the things that I’d like to write about, especially when they come from a small Central European country whose cuisine remains misunderstood and generally unknown, even to the most passionate foodies out there. I hope other food lover’s and travelers will find their way here, and will come back occasionally to check out what I’m doing. This should be fun…
